VIDEO: Little Food Festival
Only two per cent of kids are eating the recommended intake of veggies. This suggests we need to change to the way we teach about nutrition and food. How do we get kids to play an active role in sustainability and food education without getting bored?
Lecturers at Monash University’s Faculty of Education designed kid friendly, bite-sized learning sessions for little ones to consider complex food topics such as health and sustainability using art and play.
This is a new approach to working with children and families. We’re particularly interested in making it fun and not focusing on the negatives, which is something often missing from the mix. Through these hands-on workshops, kids were invited to listen, question, taste and explore the power that food has to positively influence out health, the environment and community around us.
